Cricket is gaining serious momentum in the United States, with new leagues, academies, and even Major League Cricket (MLC) drawing players and fans from around the world.
As more athletes pick up the bat and ball across American parks and stadiums, one thing is clear: the physical demands of cricket are very real—especially on the feet and ankles.

Whether it’s fast bowling on turf pitches, sprinting between the wickets, or quick lateral movements in the field, cricket puts stress on the lower limbs. Common injuries include:
- Ankle sprains from sudden direction changes
- Plantar fasciitis due to prolonged standing and impact
- Stress fractures in fast bowlers
- Achilles tendinopathy from overuse
For players in the U.S.—many of whom are transitioning from other sports or are weekend warriors—it’s vital to wear proper cricket shoes, warm up thoroughly, and address foot or ankle pain early.
As cricket expands in the U.S., so should awareness about sports injury prevention. We, at Advanced Foot Care (AFC), recommend custom foot orthotics for sport optimization. Come visit us at AFC if you suspect you have an injury. We are easily available in Nassau and Suffolk counties.
