At Advanced Foot Care, we understand how frustrating and debilitating chronic foot and ankle pain can be—especially when traditional treatments have not worked.
That’s why we’re proud to offer Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Therapy (EPAT), a cutting-edge, noninvasive solution designed to relieve pain and help you get back on your feet.
EPAT is particularly effective in treating plantar fasciitis, a common and often stubborn source of heel pain. This condition occurs when the thick band of tissue that supports your arch becomes inflamed or damaged, typically from overuse or strain. While many cases respond to rest, physical therapy, orthotics, or anti-inflammatory medications, some people continue to experience pain for months. When conservative treatments haven’t provided relief after six months or more, EPAT may be the answer.
So, what is EPAT? The term “extracorporeal” simply means “outside the body.” During the procedure, a specialized device sends sonic pressure waves—similar to those used to treat kidney stones—through the skin to the painful area. These sound waves stimulate blood flow and accelerate the body’s natural healing process by promoting cell regeneration and reducing inflammation in the affected tissue.
The procedure itself is quick and efficient, typically lasting about 15 minutes, and is performed right in our office. Because the treatment is noninvasive, there are no incisions or bandages involved, but we do recommend that someone drives you home afterward for your comfort and safety.
Not everyone is a candidate for EPAT. We do not recommend this therapy for individuals who are pregnant, have certain neurological or vascular foot conditions, wear pacemakers, or are taking medications that affect blood clotting, such as Coumadin. During your consultation at Advanced Foot Care, we’ll carefully evaluate your medical history to determine whether this treatment is right for you.
The results speak for themselves. Clinical studies have shown that 90% of patients experience significant relief from heel pain after undergoing EPAT. Best of all, the recovery time is minimal, allowing most patients to resume light activity shortly after treatment.
If heel or ankle pain, including achilles pain or neuromas have become a constant in your life and other treatments haven’t brought the relief you need, it may be time to consider a new approach. At Advanced Foot Care, our goal is to help you move freely and live pain-free.
