What is a Neuroma?

Foot neuroma is a type of nerve compression that can occur in the foot. It is also called Morton’s neuroma, which appears when abnormal tissue growth occurs.

Signs you may have a Neuroma

Foot neuroma symptoms include burning, tingling, numbness, and pain in the front part of the foot. The pain may be worse when pressure is applied to the ball or heel of your foot.

What is Neuroma Surgery?

Neuroma surgery is the surgical removal of a nerve irritated by trauma or compression.

The surgery is performed to treat neuromas that are caused by injury to the nerve. The condition may be caused by several factors, including:

  • Trauma, such as a blow to the foot or ankle which causes damage to the nerve.
  • Compression of the nerve due to a medical condition, such as diabetes mellitus or peripheral vascular disease.
  • Repeated injury or trauma over time, may lead to scarring and tissue thickening around the nerve.
  • Repeated irritation from footwear rubbing against an area on the foot where there is no padding between skin and bone.
