The summer vacation season is in full swing and people are traveling more than ever.
Many patients come in with questions and concerns regarding the amount of walking they will be doing on their vacation. For most, a trip to Europe or Disney World might entail a far greater amount of activity then they are used to.
Here are some tips to keep you moving and pain free on your summer holiday.
1) Stretching
This is crucial. Pliability and flexibility are very important. Keeping your muscles, tendons and ligaments loose will prevent injury and pain. Start your morning with a thorough stretch and end your day the same.
2) Shoe gear
Don’t try to walk Rome in flip flops! A good supportive cross trainer with a custom orthotic device is the best option for most.
3) Hydration
Staying hydrated will keep your body working well and prevent cramping.
4) Know your limits
If you are in pain or something is bothering you, take a rest. Listen to your body. Don’t push it!
5) New Orthotics
See your doctor before you leave to have your current device checked, and if needed have a new one made.
